Notes from the Gap | What Skills Transfer?

Oct 12
1 min read

When standing at the beginning of a major shift, many people quietly wonder the same thing: Will what I know carry over?

Before answering that, consider this: Which skills are you counting?

The credentials listed on your résumé? Or the unwritten capabilities that often carry the greatest weight?

  • Reading a room before speaking.

  • Calming a crisis without raising your voice.

  • Knowing which fire to put out and which one to let burn.

  • Delivering hard truths in a way people can hear.

These are capabilities built through lived experience, sound judgment, and practice. They travel with you into new roles, new industries, and new chapters, regardless of the title on the door.

Yet they rarely appear on a résumé or in a job description.

What’s one skill you use every day that no one ever hired you for?

I'd love to hear it.
